Description

If you know The Munsters, you know Drag-u-la.
I liked the idea of putting Lily Munster right on the start line as a backup girl, somewhere she kinda doesn’t belong. Bright, hot, loud… the opposite of her usual world but just like in the tv episode I wanted it to reflect this contrast.

The hardest part here wasn’t the car, it was the balancing act.

Playing with opposites all the way, yellow and purple don’t sit quietly together they push against each other throughout this piece, trying to hold the tension of taking something dark and gothic and dropping it onto a bright shiny dragstrip. Then there’s the juxtaposition of the crowd in the distant grandstand lost in the joy of a full day of racing, and that solitary intimate moment between backup girl and driver.

Getting those layers to work without flattening the piece took a few passes. It’s a strange combination but I think that’s what makes it interesting.

It ended up being as much about the atmosphere as it was about the car.
