Description

This is an iconic Hot Rod in the UK scene, a car with more spirit and history than most machines on the road today. Satin black body, polished aluminium hood, reversed whitewalls up front … every inch of it has a story.
For me, this painting was all about capturing what these cars become when they’re not parked up for photos but when they’re alive and fighting the elements, and who better than Johnny and ‘239’ to demonstrate this.
I wanted the scene to be a moment you’d never catch with a camera: headlights glowing through the rain, tyres throwing up spray, reflections dancing off wet tarmac as the lights go green. That mix of chaos, atmosphere, and raw energy is exactly why I love painting hot rods.
This one pushed me, I won’t lie. Some paintings come easy. This one made me work for every square inch but I’m glad it did, because it taught me something along the way. Seeing it come together in the final glazes, watching the colours settle and the scene ‘click’, that’s the moment I knew it was ready.
Hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed wrestling with it.
