Purple Haze
Inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s iconic song, ‘Purple Haze’ is my exploration of his music through colour, texture and movement.
Rather than creating a traditional portrait, I wanted to capture the energy, mystery and atmosphere that made the song so revolutionary. What better than painting directly onto one of my used palettes allowing the old paint to remain and become part of the expressive and spontaneous energy that echos the intensity of his psychedelic music. It acts as a creative bridge between music and art, symbolising the process of transforming inspiration into something tangible. Just as Hendrix used a guitar to create sound and emotion, the palette represents an artist’s means of translating those emotions into colour, texture and form.
This painting was never intended to be just a portrait of Hendrix. It’s my attempt to translate his sound into visual form, balancing recognisable imagery with abstraction and emotion.
